Special offices for policewomen being built in Nimroz

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): The foundation stone for special administrative offices for policewomen was laid in the capital of southwestern Nimroz province on Thursday.

Eng. Mohammad Sami, the governor of Nimroz, who attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the facility, appreciated policewomen’s achievements.

The governor said Afghan security forces, including policewomen, worked day and night ensuring security of the people.

He said local governance was getting better with each passing day following implementation of some important reforms in the local government.

Col. Ahmad Khan, deputy police chief for Nimroz, said three administrative offices for policewomen would be constructed in the first and second police districts of Zaranj city, and the police headquarters in next two months.

He said the facilities would cost $136,000 donated by UNDP.

Provincial women’s affairs officials said women’s interest in joining security forces has increased and currently at least 50 women serve in uniform.

Shakiba, who leads the policewomen section at Nimroz police headquarters, said, “We thank UNDP for helping female police officers in different areas in the past two years, now the program has provided us assistance for construction of these offices.”

She said each building would contain three rooms, a bathroom, toilet and other necessary facilities.
