JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Hundreds of internally-displaced and returning families have received food items and cash aid in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Thursday.
The aid was distributed by the provincial refugees and repatriation department on Wednesday, said Ghulam Haidar Faqirzai, refugee repatriation affairs director,
He told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) donated 14,000 afghanis to each of the 130 displaced families in the province.
UNHCR also provided $200 and blankets in assistance to each of 400 displaced families. The UN agency distributed $180 to each of 200 other affected households.
Faqirzai said displaced families from Khogyani district and hundreds of other affected households received food aid. Several families were recently displaced from Khogyani as a result of clashes between Daesh and Taliban militants.
A day earlier, local officials said an operation against militant groups was underway in Khogyani.
