<p>HEART CITY (Pajhwok): Dozens of prisoners who were extradited to <a href="/en/afghanistan" class="glossify-link">Afghanistan</a> from Iran about one year ago have gone on hunger strike at the central prison in western Herat province against their undecided fate.</p>
<p>One of the striking inmates, who did not provide him name, told Pajhwok that some 110 inmates had been denying food over the past one week, but their strike went unnoticed.</p>
<p>He said he had spent 12 years in jail in Iran before he was extradited to Afghanistan a year ago under an agreement between the two countries.</p>
<p>“All of us have spent 12 to 15 years in Iranian jails on drugs smuggling charges. One year has passed since we were brought here, but no judicial official has so visited us,” another inmate said.</p>
<p>There has been no word from judicial and prison officials about the hunger strike, but the governor’s spokesman, Jilani Farhad, confirmed some prisoners had gone on hunger strike.</p>
<p>He said a delegation had been tasked with investing the matter.</p>
<p>A few days back, family members of the prisoners extradited from Iran staged a protest demonstration in front of the governor’s house. The protesting families said the extradited inmates had spent long years in Iranian jails and they should be released to reunite with their families and start a normal life.</p>
