MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Three people were killed during an armed clash between two rival political groups in the capital of northern Balkh province on Thursday, a resident said.
Balkh deputy police chief Abdul Raziq Qaderi told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash took place between supporters of two commanders associated with Wihdat Islami and Harkat Islami groups.
The two groups clashed over a township project north of Mazar-i-Sharif, but no one suffered casualties, the police official said.
But a resident of the area, Mohammad Rassoul, said two men loyal to Harkat commander Syed Alam and one man loyal to Wihdat commander Zulfiqar were killed in the clash.
In a previous clash over the same township between Jamiat-i-Islami and Wihdat supporters left one person dead about two months ago.
