Afghan student caught for impersonation in Gujarat

KABUL (Pajhwok): An Afghan citizen, an engineering student, has been detained in the Ahmadabad city of India’s Gujarat state, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

Samiullah Rehmani, a semester four student at Vasad Engineering College, was appearing in the 'Basics of Mathematics' exam for semester one of the BBA course.

The Times of India said the Rehmani was taking the exam as a proxy for his compatriot Ismail Niyamatullah at the Narayanaguru College on Satellite Road.

Local students informed Gujarat University authorities about the proxy exam-taker, who was arrested red-handed. Niyamatullah reportedly confessed to asking Rehmani to sit the exam in his place.

Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University Himanshu Pandya said Niyamatullah -- a student of JG College of Commerce -- had been staying in Ahmedabad for two years.
