Gun-toting Uruzganis declare backing to govt

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Dozens of gun-toting residents on Tuesday held a gathering in the capital of central Uruzgan province, voicing their support for the government.

The residents said they had no links with any political party and they would allow no one to threaten the system.

Tribal elder, Rahimullah Khan, who spearheads the pro-government group, told media representatives they would allow no one to threaten the government.

He said the Uruzganis would back the system in every situation and would allow no one to warn or threaten the government.

According to him, if there was need they would go to every part of the country to defend their homeland.

Another participant of the gathering, Attaullah Afghan, said they held the gathering to protest former Balkh Governor’s refusal to leave the governorship.

He also assured full support to the government and they were ready to take action against all those threatening the government.

About a few days back, President Ashraf Ghani accepted Governor Atta Mohammad Noor’s resignation and announced Eng. Dawood as his replacement.

However, Dawood has not been formally installed so far. Noor has refused to accept the presidential decision, saying he had submitted his resignation last year based on certain conditions.
