GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The strength of female police in southern Ghazni province has reached 50 for the first time ever, the provincial deputy police chief said on Wednesday.
Ramazan Ali told Pajhwok Afghan News the female police personnel had received training in Afghanistan and abroad. He said policewomen would be participating in searching of homes after security forces operations.
Second Lieutenant Shakeba, who underwent a four-month training in Turkey and three months in Kabul, said she had no problem in performing her duty.
“One of my brothers is a police officer another is an NDS personnel and I joined the police to serve to my country,” she added.
She complained women in Ghazni had to face problems in the absence of policewomen and their problem would be resolved.
Another policewoman Fatima (not her real name) said she joined police after the death of her husband. “After my husband was killed, no one helped me, thus I joined police.”
She complained their salaries were not paid in-time, but they would not relinquish protecting the country.
Zahra, a resident, expressed happiness over the increasing number of policewomen in Ghazni. “It is a good initiative for women to address their own problems and help others.”
In Afghanistan, about 5,000 women are severing in police ranks nationwide.
