KABUL (Pajhwok): The International Islamic Relief organization on Sunday distributed food and non-food items to 686 needy families in capital Kabul.
Sayed Akbar Weyar, the organization country director in Afghanistan, told Pajhwok Afghan News the beneficiaries were a mix of vulnerable recently returned refugees and internally displaced people.
He added the families had been identified in a survey conducted by the Ministry of Labor, Martyrs, Disabled and Social Affairs.
Each family received a bag of flour, seven kilograms of beans, ten kilograms of rice, salt, ten litters of ghee and two blankets, he said.
He added 350 more families would receive the same assistance in Kabul. The same aid had been distributed among deserving families in other provinces as well.
Abdul Wakil, a beneficiary of the aid, said they endured huge problems during the ongoing winter and the latest assistance would meet their needs.
He said the families needed wood and coal to keep their dwellings warm in this biting chilly climate.
