LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The Provincial Council (PC) members of southern Helmand province blamed weak leadership behind surge in casualties of security forces in the province and claimed the Taliban have not gained strength in the restive province.
PC Head Attaullah Afghan told Pajhwok Afghan News security forces fought against the enemy courageously but fragile leadership resulted in growing casualties of security forces.
“In Helmand the number of security forces was not enough and in addition security personnel were killed and injured daily,” he added.
He also claimed that some policemen from Helmand served as security guard for some individuals in Kabul and Lashkargah.
Secretary of PC Hayatullah Mayar said security forces did not have the capacity to maintain its grip on retaken areas.
He added due to the weak leadership last month many security forces had been killed and injured.
He added most areas in Helmand were in the Taliban control and made strong resistance against security forces. “The Taliban had been making last efforts for their presence in Helmand and some security forces suffered casualties due to recent fighting,” he added.
Effective security plans had been made for durable peace in the province and these plans would be soon implemented.
