KABUL at tomorrow’s Kabul Process Conference, an official said Tuesday.
Haroon Chakhansuri, deputy head of the president’s office on strategic affairs and media, told reporters in Kabul the second round of Kabul Process Conference would be organized in Kabul on Wednesday.
Representatives from 25 countries, including the US, UK, Germany, Pakistan, and heads of international organizations would attend the conference.
He added the conference would comprise of three parts – the opening session, group discussions on peace and counter-terrorism discussions.
The conference would be kicked off with preliminary remarks by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and representatives from some countries.
Chakhansuri said the High Peace Council (HPC) had held meetings with people in provincial capitals and found that people wanted peace and stability in the country.
He said the government had devised a peace strategy which would be disclosed at tomorrow meeting.
He added the government had set no pre-condition for peace talks and all Afghan armed groups specially the Taliban could join the peace process.
He said the Afghan government wanted the world and Pakistan to support the Afghan government’s peace efforts.
A source, who wished to go unnamed, said a Taliban office in Kabul and lifting sanctions on Taliban willing to start talks would be the Afghan government’s offers to the international community.
The issuance of passports to the Taliban would be another offer by the Afghan government.
Chakhansuri said the Afghan government was offering the chance to the Taliban for the last time till April 2018.
About Taliban’s latest call on the Americans to hold direct talks with their office in Qatar, Chahansuri said the US had rejected the Taliban talks offer and said the group should talk to the Afghan government.
The Kabul Process Conference will also talk about the Afghan refugees issue and it is expected that all refugees in Pakistan would be repatriated in 24 months.
