SHEBRGHAN (Pajhwok): At least 13 Daesh or so-called Islamic state (IS) fighters including two Uzbekistani have been killed in a NATO forces airstrike in Darzab district of northern Jawzjan province, security officials said on Sunday.
Jawzjan deputy police chief, Col. Abdul Hafeez Khashi told Pajhwok Afghan News that NATO forces targeted Daesh hideouts with airstrikes in Chagana village of the district on Saturday night at around 2:00am.
He said 13 Daesh rebels including two Uzbikstanis fighters were killed and a number of others wounded during the overnight attack.
He further said Afghan air forces transferred reinforcements and some weapons to the area this morning.
The clash between Afghan forces and Daesh in Darzab district is underway since last one week.
However, Col. Mohammad Ismail, the district police chief, said that clash was ended this morning.
The airstrikes against the militants are very effective and they should continue until the situation controlled, he said.
“Two Daesh commanders were also killed in last night’s airstrike but their identity is kept hidden by the rebel group,” Ismail concluded.
