Rafiullah wins 2-km wheelchair racing in Kabul

The two-kilometer race involving 50 disabled individuals was between Faiz Mohammad Katib Road and Darul Aman Palace areas.

Najibullah Alokozai, 2nd urban district chief at Kabul municipality, told Pajhwok Afghan News the competition was jointly organized by the Kabul municipality, the Federation of People with Disabilities and Kabul police headquarters under the slogan “Beautiful Kabul” for encouraging people to protect the environment.

He said Rafiullah won the race as he covered the 2-km distance in 13 minutes. Runner up Faizullah covered it in 27 minutes and third position holder Sayed Wali in 29 minutes.

The winner and the runner up would be given electric wheelchairs and 10 others with top marks would be given books in award, Alokozai said.

Rafiullah, 32, the winner, said he was happy for participating in the race. He said his back was injured and was paralyzed 20 years ago during the civil war of Mujahideen in Kabul.

He asked people to be careful about protection of environment for the sake of their and other people’s health.
