KABUL could not play well under pressure, skipper Rashid Khan admitted at a press conference after beating Nepal at Bulawayo.

To reach the super-six stage of the World Cup Qualifiers, Afghanistan will wait for the results of the Nepal-Hong Kong match. If Nepal win, Afghanistan will have the chance to go to the second round.

In response to a question, Khan said their morale had been boosted by the badly-needed triumph. The team had devised a plan to chase down the target in 40 overs, he added.

“We cannot play under pressure and cannot hold control our nerves. In pressure situations, we played irresponsible cricket. But I hope we will not repeat those shortcomings in future.”

The skipper said he had learnt a lot while leading the national squad. He added Mohammad Nabi cooperated a lot with him on the field in the absence of Asghar Stanikzai.

“The way we played in Sharjah was so good in all ODIs and T20s. We performed responsibly as a well-knit bowling and fielding unit,” he remarked, promising the national side would play better cricket in upcoming matches.
