PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Five Afghan local police (ALP) personnel were killed and three others wounded during a clash with Taliban militants in northern Baghlan province on Wednesday.

The clash in Dand Ghori district occurred after the rebels stormed an ALP post, Baghlan police spokesman Zabihullah Shuja told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Bismilllah Attash, a member of the provincial council (PC), said the slain personnel belonged to Dehna Ghori district, which has been under Taliban control over the past two years.

He said the overall security situation in Baghlan was not stable and urged the government to conduct clearing operations in insecure areas.

He said many ALP men who belonged to Dehna Ghori district had been deployed elsewhere, including Dand Ghori, in violation of the local police law.

A colleague of the slain ALP members, who wished to go unnamed, said the ALP members were stationed in a mosque as they had no post.

He said: “The attack was carried out from nearby houses, in which five ALP men were killed and three others wounded”.
