9 Daesh, 3 Taliban killed in Jawzjan, Farah incidents

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): At least nine Daesh or Islamic State (IS) and three Taliban militants have been killed in separate incidents of violence in northern Jwazjan and western Farah provinces, officials said Tuesday.

IS gunmen stormed on a security check-post in Darzab district of Jawzjan late on Monday night, killing one security personnel and injuring five others, said Col. Abdul Hafeez Khashi, Jawzjan’s deputy police chief.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News four Daesh rebels were killed and five others wounded after the security forces returned fire.

Separately, a Daesh rebel surrendered to security forces in Qush Tepa district early on Tuesday morning and turned in a Kalashnikov and a motorbike, according to Khashi.

The police official said it had been recently that the rebels were willing to shun violence in the district and join the peace reconciliation process.

In Farah province, three Taliban militants were killed and four others wounded in an airstrike in Totank locality of Bala Boluk district late on Monday night, a security official, who wished to go unnamed, said.

A resident of the area, who also declined to be identified, confirmed the airstrike. He added the Taliban were in vehicles when came under attack from the air.

An Afghan National Army (ANA) official said the airstrike was carried out by the Afghan Commando forces, but did not provide more details.

The governor’s spokesman said he had no information about the incident.

But the Taliban rejected casualties to the fighters in the airstrike, claiming that two civilians, including a child, were wounded in the nighttime blitz.
