FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): As protests for peace widen in different parts of the country, dozens of tribal elders and youth on Friday set up a camp in the capital of western province.
The elders and youth, staging a sit-in in Farah City, warned of continued protests in case the government and the Taliban did not heed their call for peace.
They alleged the ongoing war had been imposed on the Afghans, who had been paying the price over the past four decades. The trail of murder and mayhem must come to an end, they stressed.
Haji Mohiuddin Hewadmal, one of the protestors, told Pajhwok Afghan News both policemen and Taliban were Afghans. They should stop fighting and make peace, the demonstrators said.
Another participant and civil society activist, Mohammad Dawood, said: “Taliban should share their demands with the government and strive for their rights peacefully.”
Similarly, he said, the Americans should also enhance their focus on peace talks instead of ramping up the conflict. He called for stepping up the reconciliation process.
