PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The teacher of a seminary along with his 20 students has joined the Taliban ranks in Baraki district of northern Baghlan province, an official said on Saturday.
Police Spokesman Zabihullah Shuja told Pajhwok Afghan News Maulvi in Alaf Baik village of the district and motivated his students to join the Taliban rebels.
District Police Chief Mohammad Ali also confirmed the incident and said the move would not have any impact on the security situation.
Meanwhile, the district administration head Maulvi Shams-ul-Din also confirmed the incident to Pajhwok and accused Maulvi Sharaf-i-Din being in contact Taliban militants in the past too.
He said, “Maulvi Sharaf-u-Din was not a famous Islamic scholar and by joining the Taliban would not have any kind of impact on the security situation.
Maulvi Sharaf-i-Din was under the security forces’ surveillance and he knew that police would arrest him and thus joined the Taliban ranks with his 20 students.
Taliban have not yet commented about the incident.
