MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Local officials on Thursday said Taliban militants torched two mobile phone towers in northern Balkh province, depriving thousands of people from telephone services.
Abdul Matin Khwajazada, administrative chief of Chamtal district of Balkh, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the incident took place in the center of the district on Wednesday night.
He said Taliban completely destroyed two mobile phone towers, depriving thousands of residents of the district out of telephone services.
However, Khwajazada did not clear the name of the company the towers belonged to.
Taliban previously warned telecom companies to shut down their services during the night, he concluded.
The insurgent group did not comment yet on the incident.
