KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has directed provincial security and administrative officials to take necessary measures for implementation of the voter registration process to be kicked off on Saturday, April 14.
A statement from the Presidential Palace on Thursday said Gulajan Abdul Badai Sayyad, head of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), held a video conference with the president and provincial election officials.
Sayyad said the voter registration process would be launched on April 14 and the commission had accelerated its efforts to hold free, fair and transparent polls.
He added the voters registration would be completed in two phases --- first in cities and the second phase in districts centres and villages.
The president discussed the voter registration launch with governors of 34 provinces, commanders of military corps; zonal police chiefs, brigades, intelligence officials and heads of zonal IEC officials through the video conference.
The president asked officials to make full preparations for the voters’ registration process and encourage the masses to take part in the process.
The Wolesi Jirga and District Council’s elections are scheduled for October 20 this year.
