Ex-agriculture official gets sent to jail for 5 years

KABUL development fund employee to five years in jail with a 28 million afghanis fine over forgery.

Abdul Khalil Qaderi, an employee of the Agriculture Department, was tried in public in presence of his lawyers, civil activists and media representatives.

The relevant prosecutor, presenting documents, said Abdul Khalil had withdrawn 28.5 million afghanis from the Agricultural Development Fund through bank with forged documents from the International Bank of Afghanistan.

Khalil then disappeared with the money but he was arrested in 1393 solar year in northern Balkh province.

In response to his charges, the accused defense lawyer rejected the accusations against his clients, saying a number of foreign nationals were “main perpetrators” of the case and they should be prosecuted.

The court later sentenced Abdul Khalil to five years of imprisonment and fined him 28.5 million afghanis.
