KABUL (HIA) leader Gulbadin Hekmatyar on Thursday claimed some internal circles and embassies are out to influence the elections.
In a meeting with tribal leaders, religious scholars and jihadi commanders from the Qarabagh district of Kabul, he urged the people to actively participate in the voter registration process.
A statement from the HIA office quoted Hekmatyar as stressing the need for fair and free elections. However, he accused some circles within the government and certain embassies of trying to harm the parliamentary elections.
Without naming any foreign embassy, he said certain circles were in a bid to fuel ethnic tensions and prolong the conflict in the country and thereby manipulate the electoral outcome.
Hekmatyar told his interlocutors the foreigners did not want to see a credible Afghan parliament, a strong central government, political parties and unity among the Afghans.
The HIA leader said: “Our campaign against corruption continues. We support all movements against corruption and impede things that harm the national interests, Afghan values or denigrate Islam.”
He emphasised on transparent elections, hoping the Afghans -- if they showed spine -- could prevent defeat the enemy. He urged the people to prepare for elections, receive ID cards and register as voters.
The former prime minister added they did not want elections like the controversial past ballots. He was referring to the presidential vote between Ashraf Ghani and Dr. Abdullah.
