KABUL, have been detained in connection with drugs smuggling cases within a month, the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) said Tuesday.

A statement from the CJTF said police detained 65 people including two women (one of them an Iranian national and four government employees) in 53 drug smuggling cases.

Of the detainees, 25 tried to smuggle heroin via the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul to India.

More than 3, 83 kilograms of heroin, 21kg of opium, nearly 6, 27kg of hashish, 32 tons of chemicals, and 2, 90 tablets were seized from them.

According to the statement, security personnel also recovered 18 vehicles, 92 mobile phone sets and two weapons from the alleged smugglers.

The CJTF’s primary court sentenced 28 smugglers, including a woman, to jail terms ranging one and a half years to 16 years and most the convicts hailed from Kabul, Nangarhar and Herat provinces.
