Supporting polls, thousands attend Laghman gatherings

MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Thousands of people attended two separate gatherings in eastern Laghman province, voicing their support for the Oct 20 parliamentary and district council elections.

Some 2000 people took part in the events named “elections and people’s fate” and “8th of Suar month – the day of Mujahideen’s victory” at the governor’s house, said Sarhadi Zwak, the governor’s spokesman.

He said governor Mohammad Asif Nang, provincial council members, lawmakers, advisors from the presidential palace and the CEO office, religious scholars, tribal elders, youth, women and sportsmen were in attendance.

Deputy governor Shehzad Mazlomyar spoke in detail about the 8th of Suar, the resistance of Mujahideen, people’s sufferings in the way of jihad and mistakes of some jihadi leaders after the victory o Mujahideen.

He called on the participants to register to vote in the upcoming elections for the sake of a better future, a stable, elected and strong government.

CEO Abdullah Abdullah addressed the gatherings through the telephone and invited people to support the government and take part in the voter registration process.
