KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Thursday strongly opposed the launch of long-delayed electronic National Identity Cards (e-NIC).
Earlier today, President Ghani, First Lady Rula Ghani (Bibi Gul), Vice-President Sarwar Danish, Deputy CEO Eng. Mohammad Khan, Yousaf Halim, NSA Hanif Atmar, The Ulema Council head and other official received their ID cards.
Addressing a press conference in Kabul after the officially launch of e-NIC by President Ghani, CEO said the process was not legitimate and he would not be a part of the process.
He emphasized the national process need national-level consultation and the e-NIC should not divide the nation.
“I declare that all the national process that are not discussed in national level and with people of Afghanistan are not legitimate.”
“The reason I am not participating in the distribution of ID cards, I know this process has not received the needed legitimacy and support of Afghans. One way decisions can lead the country to crisis,” he continued.
Abdullah added: “As an Afghan I’m proud of my identity as a Muslim and Afghan. I know there are some individuals and groups that are preaching the rumors that I am against the certain process which are completely false.”
“We should also prioritize our work. Our people need better security and services from the government, not the issues that can make challenge to our efforts for peace and stability in the country,” he remarked.
