Work resumes on Samangan electricity projects

AIBAK (Pajhwok): Work on two electricity projects has resumed after being brought to a halt two months ago due to threats from insurgents, an official said Sunday.

Humayon Syed KarimYousufi, Da Afghanistan Breshana Shirkat (DABS) director for Samangan, acknowledged the project had been in abeyance.

However, he added there was no presence of militants in the area where the project was being implemented.

The project which includes extension of a power supply line, would facilitate 30 families in Samanagan upon completion.

Humayon, however, alleged workers of the contracted company on their own free will had stopped work on the electricity projects.

He added the issue was quickly addressed by the governor’s house and contacts were established with GIZ and the Tajikistani company which had been assured of their security.

Mohammad Humayon Barlas, administrative head of Feroz Nakhchar district, said the project in his district faced no threat or problem.

He said security of workers and the company was looked after by locals and security officials.

The project of electricity line extension was launched in 2014 with financial support of Germany. Currently 70 percent work on the project has been completed.
