29 drug smugglers including women apprehended

KABUL, on charges drug smuggling and illegal cash transfers, an official said on Tuesday.

The alleged smugglers detained in Kabul, Herat, Zabul, Balkh, Kapisa, Nangarhar and Nimroz provinces, the Criminals Justice Task Force (CJTF) spokesman said.

Ahmad Khalid Mowahid told Pajhwok Afghan News that 11 of the detainees were trying to smuggle drugs and cash from Kabul airport to India.

Mowahid said the convicts, including two women, had been arrested in connection with 21 drug cases that were tried by the Counter-Narcotics Justice Centre (CNJC) court.

Police seized 42 kilograms of heroin, more than 158 kilograms of opium, 94 kilograms of hashish, more than 4 kg of solid chemicals, over 9 kg of crystal and 300 K-Tab tablets.

He said 33,350 afghanis, $1,800, 94,500 Indian rupees, 164,250 Pakistani rupees, 76,836,000 Iranian riyals, 26 phone sets and two vehicles were also recovered from the detainees.
