KABUL besides helping to advance peace and stability.
EU Ambassador to Kabul Pierre Mayaudon reiterated the EU’s commitments towards Afghanistan during his address to a gathering marking the EU Day.
“The EU is in Afghanistan to support the people of this country not to do things which the Afghan must do,” he said.
He said the 28 members of the EU had been in Afghanistan to support the people of Afghanistan.
In the new EU strategy approved in October 2017 the EU stressed peace, stability, security, democracy, rule of law, human rights, good governance and economic development in Afghanistan.
“Migration and we have aid packages for them,” the envoy said.
He hoped one day all Afghans, specially the youth, would become responsible citizens and would fight against corruption, poverty, smuggling and violence in their country.
“We have been trying to be effective in the Afghan peace process. Elections and the peace process are two political processes which we support technically and financially,” said Mayaudon.
The upcoming elections, he said, were not only a chance for democracy, but for peace because massive participation of people in elections would send a strong message to the armed opponents.
