BEIJING (Pajhwok): China has vowed to continue providing medical treatment for Afghan children suffering from heart ailments.
Xin Lei, deputy head for Asian affairs at the Chinese foreign ministry, held out the promise during a meeting with a deletion of Afghan journalists on Wednesday.
Some two weeks back, about 25 Afghan children with holes in their hearts had been sent to China for medical treatment. After undergoing successful surgeries in Sinkiang province, they returned home.
Pajhwok Afghan News Editor Javed Hamim Kakar said around 7,000 children suffering from heart holes were registered by the Afghan Red Cross.
The ailing children could not afford such expensive treatment, he said, urging Beijing to arrange surgeries for them in China.
The Chinese diplomat promised his country would provide medical treatment to more Afghan children.
Red Crescent official Fazal Khuda told Pajhwok Afghan News they had inked a contract with the Chinese counterpart. Under the agreement, China will treat 100 Afghan children.
