SHARAN (Pajhwok): Three policemen have been killed and as many wounded in an insurgent attack on a check-post in southeastern Paktika province, locals said on Thursday.
The Taliban stormed the police checkpoint in the Hasti area of Janikhel district late Wednesday night, a relative of one of the victims told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Malik Sardar Khan, a tribal elder from the area, confirmed the ambush. Two of the policemen killed hailed from Warmama district. Their bodies are to be handed over to relatives.
Security officials also verified the attack but offered no details. They said information, as and when made available, would be shared with the media.
The police spokesman and the deputy police chief, when approached for comments, refused to speak about the incident. The Taliban have not yet commented on the attack.
