Of the 431 international students enrolled in the 2017 academic session, 238 are from Afghanistan and 53 from Iran, the university said in a statement.
Eleven of the 238 Afghan students are studying on the PU campus, with the remaining 227 enrolled in affiliated colleges, the statement added.
“Students from Afghanistan and Iran come to PU as they find the culture here closer to their own. Education here is less expensive than in other countries,” said the dean of international students (DIS).
Deepti Gupta added Afghan and Iranian students pursue their PhDs in PU and then go for employment in countries like Canada, the US and the UK.
