1 inmate killed, 7 abducted in Balkh attack on police convoy

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Two people including a prisoner were killed and seven others inmates have been abducted after unidentified gunmen attacked police convoy in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, an official said on Friday.

Police Spokesman Sher Jan Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News police convoy carrying the prisoners from Khelm district to Mazar-i-Sharif was attacked on Thursday night at around 10:00 on airport squared.

Deputy administration head of the Kehlm district was killed during the attack while one prisoner got injured who had been shifted to the hospital and was in better condition, he said.

According to the residents that attack was carried out by an armed group and no militant group was involved in the incident.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
