PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Six policemen and three suicide bombers were killed on Wednesday morning when the militants detonated an explosives-laden vehicle in front of a police building in central Logar province.
Police spokesman Shahpur Ahmadzai told Pajhwok Afghan News that the incident took place in the 1st police district of Pul-i-Alam -- the provincial capital -- at 5am.
He said one of the bombers blew up the explosives-packed van at the entrance to the police facility, enabling two others to enter the station. The attackers were killed in an exchange of fire with special forces.
Ahmadzai said three policemen, including the district police chief, were killed. Four police personnel and eight civilians were wounded in the bombing.
Another source told Pajhwok on condition of anonymity that six policemen, including three traffic personnel, were killed in the suicide attack.
Taliban claimed credit for the attack. The group spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said several policemen, including the district police chief, had suffered casualties.
