KABUL.

A source in the Afghanistan tent in the capital at 9am.

In accordance with Islamic teachings, according to the source, the clerics unanimously issued a seven-article edict about the conflict. The fatwa says:

More than 99 percent of Afghans are Muslim and the country has a legitimate constitution. The insurgency in the name of jihad, therefore, is forbidden in Islam;

The war, expanding with each passing day and killing civilians, benefits only the enemies of the country. Both Taliban and the government should reach a peace agreement to end the war;

Suicide attacks and bombings have no justification in Islam. Therefore, such attacks, trafficking and fraud are strictly prohibited and supporting and funding is illegal and unlawful;

Those who ignore the imperative of peace clearly disobey the orders of Almighty Allah and his messenger Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH);

Afghanistan is an Islamic society. Promoting immoral activities in it is not only against Islamic teachings but also misguides youth;

Discrimination — ethnic or linguistic — and other such acts run counter to Islam and should be prohibited and punished;

The scholars condemned meddling from the circles, groups and countries that want to perpetuate the war and killing of Afghans. Corruption, robberies, kidnappings and violence were slammed as big sins.

The scholars renewed their call for the Taliban to accept the government’s unconditional peace offer.  “We call on the Taliban to give a positive response to the government’s peace offer.”
