Prominent religious scholar gunned down in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhowk): Renowned religious scholar and preacher of Movi Jami Mosque Abdul Haq Akhnzada was killed on Monday, an official said.

Governor Spokesman Daud Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News Akhnzada was on his way back to home from Mosque when shot dead by unknown gunmen.

He said the incident happened this afternoon in the limits of fourth police district. The assailants managed to flee but police had launched investigation, said Ahmadi.

Akhunzada remained sermon and prayer leader of Movi Jami Mosque from the past two decades and recently attended some social and public gatherings.

He was killed at time when thousands of religious scholars from across the country have come7 together in Kabul against ongoing conflict in the country.
