KABUL in protection of its historic relics and monuments, a statement from the Chief Executive Office said on Tuesday.
The envoy, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, reiterated the commitment during a meeting with CEO Abdullah Abdullah, who is on a two-day official visit to the European Nation.
Milanesi reiterated Italy would continue its presence in Afghanistan and would continue supporting the war-torn country.
He termed relations between the two countries as friendly and based on mutual interest and shared values.
The CEO thanked Rome for its active presence and constructive role in Afghanistan and hoped mutual cooperation between the two nations would continue to grow in different fields.
Abdullah reassured the unity government’s commitment to holding fair and transparent parliamentary and district council elections.
Afghanistan enjoyed cordial relationship with its neighbouring countries, said Abdullah, hoping Pakistan would implement its promises of cooperation in the war against terrorism.
The Italian foreign minister said peace and stability in Afghanistan could boost the country’s economic development and integration into the region, an issue Italy gave ‘huge importance’ to.
He also assured Italian soldiers would remain in Afghanistan as part of NATO’s Resolute Support (RS) mission because peace and stability in Afghanistan, the region and beyond was of high importance to Italy.
Milanesi declared support for free and fair elections in Afghanistan and hoped that the recent ceasefire would pave lead to durable peace in the country.
He also pledged support to Afghanistan in rehabilitating and reconstructing its historic sites keeping in mind Italy’s experience in the field.
