Trump administration backs Afghan peace negotiations

KABUL to reach a peace agreement and political settlement.

During the Eid festival, President Ashraf Ghani offered to extend the Afghan government’s June 11 ceasefire and start peace negotiations with the militant movement.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said: “As President Ghani emphasised in his statement, peace talks by necessity would include a discussion of the role of international actors and forces…”

The United States, the secretary was quoted as saying by Radio Free Europe, was ready to support, facilitate and participate in these discussions.

“All of Afghanistan,” Pompeo remarked. “

He called agreement on initiating peace talks an expression of determination to create a unified Afghanistan, where all its citizens could live in peace and dignity.
