Danish admits govt fails to develop culture

KABUL remained sidelined and admitted the government did not discharge its responsibility towards cultural development.

Introducing Hasina Safi as acting information and culture minister at a special ceremony here, Danish said the Ministry of Information and Culture had an important role to play in promoting cultural affairs of the country.

He said the Afghanistan’s constitution clearly explained the position of culture and many good subsidiary laws on culture had been made part of the book.

“But unfortunately we should confess the government or the state in general has many failures in cultural development of this nation and unsuccessful in implementing laws and policies,” he said.

Danish said the private sector had tried enough promoting culture particularly arts, literature, thoughts, media and others, but the government failed to play its part properly.

The VP believed religious extremism resulted from low work in religious and cultural spheres and not discharging responsibilities by the government’s organs concerned.

He hailed the culture ministry’s new leadership for their efforts at fighting corruption, introducing reforms and adhering to meritocracy and asked the acting minister to take bold steps in the mentioned areas.
