ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Hundreds of protestors erected a tent in this capital city of southwestern Nimroz province on Saturday against what they said increasing insecurity and corruption under the provincial governor.
The protestors demanded resignation of the provincial governor, Eng Mohammad Sami for his failure to ensure peace and eradicate corruption.
However, governor Sami said the president had appointed him as the governor and if the central government wanted, he would resign.
Explaining his achievements, the governor said since taking charge as the governor he had implemented several key projects, tackled corruption and drugs trafficking and revenues increased under him from 500 million afghanis to one billion afghanis.
The governor said the security situation had improved and he himself had visited all districts of the province
“When I want to apply the rule of law, some people start making noise,” he said, adding he welcomed peaceful protest and would soon reach out to the protestors to listen to their demands.
