Acting Rashidan police chief among 4 killed

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Acting police chief for Rashidan district of southern Ghazni province and three policemen have been killed and six others wounded during a clash with the Taliban, officials said Saturday.

Mohammad Arif Noori, governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that clashes between the Afghan forces and the Taliban took place in five districts including Rashidan, Jaghori, Qarabagh, Andar and Jaghato districts last night.

He said that acting Rashidan district police chief, 2nd Lt. Sebghatullah and three policemen were killed in the Taliban attack.

Taliban militants also suffered casualties and their attacks were pushed back by Afghan forces, he said without providing details.

Taliban confirmed the clashes. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said militants have seized an Afghan forces base and a security post on Friday night.

He claimed 20 Afghan soldiers were killed and 10 others wounded during the gun battle.

Clashes between the Afghan forces and the Taliban have recently been intensified in Ghazni province.
