PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The United States and Pakistan.
After his maiden meeting with US Defence Secretary James Mattis, Pakistan’s new ambassador said his country was ready to enhance cooperation with Afghanistan.
“We agreed on the need to work together for peace and stability in Afghanistan,” Ambassador Ali Jahangir Siddiqui said. “I reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to play its part in this peace and reconciliation process.”
Speaking to Dawn, Siddiqui said he briefed Mattis on Pakistan’s efforts to enhance its cooperation with Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s Defence Attaché Kamal Anwar Chaudhry accompanied Siddiqui, who has previously served as a special assistant on economic affairs to former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
The envoy told Mattis about Islamabad’s efforts to expand its cooperation with Kabul, including through the Afghanistan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS).
