KANDAHAR CITY/LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least 10 civilians have been killed, including women and children, in two separate explosions in Kandahar and Helmand provinces, officials said on Thursday.
A security source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News a powerful explosion rocked Kandahar’s Arghistan district on Wednesday evening.
He said the six individuals, including women, were killed as their vehicle heading to Maroof district struck a roadside bomb in the Bala Zherai area of the district.
Meanwhile, police spokesman Zia Durrani said three civilians were killed in the blast. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.
Helmand governor’s spokesman Omar Zwak said four children, including two girls, aged between seven and 10, were killed in a landmine in Greshk district.
He blamed the Taliban for planting the landmine, which exploded late on Wednesday. However, the Taliban have not yet commented on either of the two incidents.
