HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A blaze blamed on electric short-circuit caused millions of afghanis loss to a branch of the New Kabul Bank in western Herat province on Friday, but there were no casualties, an official said.
The early morning fire broke out in the bank’s building situated at the Amariat square due to an electric short-circuit, the governor’s spokesman, Jilani Farhad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the blaze caused no casualties but millions of afghanis financial losses to the structure and contents of the building.
He said the fire brigade reached the scene on time and extinguished the fire before spreading to other places.
He said an investigation was underway to know the actual cause of the fire.
Zonal hospital spokesman Mohammad Rafique Sherzai said an arms depot for the bank’s security had been completely destroyed in the fire.
