LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Four members of a family were killed and ten others injured including women and children in a bomb blast inside a home in Garamsir district of southern Helmand province on Sunday.
The district’s administrative chief, Sirajuddin Sarhadi, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion took place in an area which was out of the government’s control.
He quoted residents of the area as saying that a man had brought home some metal scrap which included an unexploded mortar shell that later went off.
He said four men of the family were killed and children and women among ten others wounded in the incident.
Meanwhile, Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, also confirmed the incident but he had further information.
But a security official, who wished to go unnamed, claimed the blast occurred when the landmine was being made and it caused casualties to family members of the maker.
An official at the Emergency-run hospital in Lashkargah, confirmed receiving eight injured individuals including children and women.
