GARDEZ (Pajhwok): At least 28 Taliban militants have been killed and 16 others wounded during a clash in Ahmadkhel district of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Thursday.
Police Spokesman Sardar Wali Tabasum told Pajhwok Afghan News insurgents stormed a number of security check-posts in Sikandarkhel locality of the district on Wednesday night.
He said 28 Taliban insurgents were killed and 16 others wounded in Afghan forces retaliatory assault.
Three policemen were also killed and four others wounded in the nighttime assault, Tabasum added.
Meanwhile, Abdullah Shafiq, a resident of Ahmadkhel district told Pajhwok that the Ahmadkhel-Zazi Aryub road was closed for traffic.
The provincial police officials said the highway had been closed as Taliban militants planted bombs on it.
Officials said that a de-miners team has been reached to the area in order to clear the highway.
The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard.
