12 border police killed, 5 injured in Takhar clash

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A dozen border policemen were killed and five others wounded during a clash with Taliban insurgents in Dashti Qala district of northeastern Takhar province, an official said Monday.

Police spokesman Maj. Khalilullah Asir told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents coordinately stormed the Aye-Khanum port late Sunday night at around 1: 30am.

He said 12 border policemen were killed and five others wounded in the attack. However, he said the Taliban had also suffered causalities but exact figures were not known as yet.

On the other hand, the militants claimed killing 18 policemen and wounding ten others besides capturing weapons and ammunitions.
