Helmand’s deputy police chief, ANA officer injured

<p>LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The deputy provincial police chief for southern Helmand province and a senior Afghan National Army (ANA) official were wounded in a rocket strike in Nad Ali district of southern Helmand province on Sunday.</p>

<p>Col Guli Khan, the provincial deputy police chief, and Hazrat Gul Quraishi, commander of the ANA’s third battalion in the province, were wounded in Chah Angir area of the district Sunday noon, a police official in Helmand said on the condition of anonymity.</p>

<p>“The two officials were sitting beneath a tree which was hit by a rocket fired by militants,” the source said.</p>

<p>Helmand police spokesman, Abdul Salam Afghan, confirmed the incident and said the two security officials had sustained slight wounds and both were discharged after receiving treatment in hospital.</p>

<p>Officials at Emergency-run hospital in Lashkargah confirmed receiving the two officials in wounded condition around 4pm. The hospital sources said the officials were discharged after treatment.</p>

<p>There has been no word from the <a href="/en/taliban" class="glossify-link">Taliban</a> about the incident that follows a clearing operation by Afghan forces against the Taliban militants in Lashkargah, the provincial capital and Nad Ali district.</p>
