KABUL (Pajhwok): Pajhwok Afghan News reporters won all three awards the Voice of America (VoA) has offered for a competition among creative Afghan journalists.
Dozens of reporters submitted their reports as part of the competition and the VoA selected 10 top reports, with Pajhwok reporter from southern Kandahar province Bashir Ahmad Naadim finishing first.
Four Pajhwok reporters took part in the competition and three won first, second and third prize. They included Saifullah Maftoon from southern Ghazni province and Bismillah Pashtunmal from Zabul province.
The fourth Pajhwok reporter who submitted his report regarding reaction of Facebook users about Wolesi Jirga candidate Dewa Niazi was Zirak Faheem, Pajhwok correspondent from eastern Nangarhar province.
The reports were placed on the VoA website to get votes and the process concluded on Thursday and the results were announced in the evening that day through the VoA Ashna radio.
Akmal Dawi, digital branch official at the Ashna Radio, said about the contest that creative reporters were those who presented the real picture of people’s lives in every part of the county.
Announcing the competition result, Dawi said nearly one million people around the globe voted for the reports, mostly in Afghanistan.
He said Pajhwok Afghan News reporter Bashir Ahmad Naadim’s report had obtained the higher number of votes and won the first award.
The second and third award also went to two Pajhwok reporters Zirak Fahim and Bismillah Pashtunmal respectively.
Pajhwok chief editor Danish Karokhel commended the competition and congratulated his organization’s reporters for winning the awards.
He said Pajhwok’s all reporters, particularly those operating in provinces, worked under difficult circumstances and praised the VoA for arranging such event in order to encourage creative reporters.
