MAHMODRAQI (Pajhwok): Police have seized a vehicle full of chromite and arrested its four smugglers in Tagab district of central Kapisa province, officials said Saturday.
Tagab police chief, Mohammad Naim Sapi, told Pajhwok Afghan News that police seized a truck full of chromite along with its four smugglers on Tagab road around 11pm last night.
He said three of the smugglers belonged to Tagab district and one of them to the capital of Kapisa province.
These smugglers extracted the chromite from a mine in the southern region of the district for trafficking it to Pakistan, he added.
Parwiz Sapi, a resident of the area said the chromite mine was illegally extracted by local strongmen and militants.
Eng. Aziz, Kapisa mines director, told Pajhwok chromite stones from Tagab mine were illegally trafficked to neighbor Pakistan for years.
He said that security situation in the area where the mine was located, not good and their officials could not visit the area.
