Afghan awarded 7 years in jail for stabbing girlfriend

KABUL (Pajhwok): An Afghan asylum seeker has been sentenced to seven years in prison by a court in the German city of Darmstadt for a stabbing his 17-year-old girlfriend.

The Afghan was found guilty on Friday of seriously injuring his ex-girlfriend with a knife last year. The girl suffered 17 stab wounds to her back, neck and chest.

According to Deutsch Welle, the teenager arrived in Germany in 2015. It was determined he is about 17 years old and was sentenced under juvenile law.

Judge Marc Euler said the motive for the "extremely brutal" crime was that the man could not cope with the fact that his girlfriend had ended the relationship.

The public prosecutor's office had sought seven years and six months in juvenile detention for the accused. The defence lawyer pleaded for four years.
