KABUL, to jail terms from one to 16 years over smuggling narcotics, the Criminal Anti-Corruption Justice Task Force said on Tuesday.

The trials of these individuals were conducted during the past one week by the primary and appellant court of the task force, a statement said.

The CJTF statement said the convicts had been arrested from different parts of the country in connection with the smuggling of 28 kilograms of heroin, 45 kilograms of morphine, 451 kilograms of opium, 363 kilograms of hashish, chemicals and 123 kilograms of shesha or ice.

Police had arrested the individuals from Kabul, Sar-i-Pul, Kandahar, Balkh and Nimroz provinces and recovered cash and drugs from their possession.

Another 13 people had been arrested in connection with 10 drug smuggling cases before they were produced before the Criminal Justice Task Forces for judicial procedure.

Of them, seven wanted to smuggle heroin to India and Saudi Arabi via the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.
